Welcome Plaza
The Art Gallery of New South Wales expansion opened to the public in 2022. The project is the most significant cultural development in the city since the opening of the Sydney Opera House. The new building designed by Pritzker Prize winning architects, SANAA.
Building on the experience of processing Hermes Beijing special M-Shape curved shopfront glass, South Star Glass completed all the fabrication of canopy glass in a smooth manner that supported demanding construction schedule of the Welcome Plaza.
The irregular and changing printing patterns for each glass panel added to the complexity of hot bent profile control. Already the hot bent process is affected by many factors including curve profile, glass thickness, ambient temperature, humidity, etc.
The long edge of glass panel are connected by very slender joints. The tolerance specifications are only +/-5mm tolerance for 7 plus meter length.
